ANTONIO PESCE

Antonio Pesce was born in 1952, in Molare amid the Monferrato hills. He attended the Art School in Acqui Terme and then the Brera Fine Arts Academy in Milan. His pictorial activity began with a preference for watercolors, drawing and pastels, with a relevant interest in sacred themesi; he took part in many exhibitions, in particular at Spoleto “Festival dei due mondi" and Milan.
During the eighties his interest in chalcographic techniqus sprouted. In 1990, his thoughts affinity with writer Marcello Venturi led to an art-book entitled “Segni del tempo”. The work, printed in 75 copies, is composed of three etchings and three writings.
In the same period, his friendship with writer Mario Rigoni Stern helped to strengthen the spirit and soul of the engraver. New human values and new sensations are projected into the engraved work “Ciò che vale e ciò che non vale” (“What has value and what hasn’t”), while those sacred themes which had faded away reappeared.
In 2003, his friendship with Giorgio Trentin, president of the Venetian Engravers Association, was crucial. He’s a man who spent his liife defending the technical rigour and cultural value of engraving.
In 2008 he published another art-book with poet Roberta Dapunt “L’ultima dimora - A mia madre” (“Last Dwelling - To My Mother”), dedicated to his mother, who recently died. The book, printed in 14 copies is made of two writings due scritture and four etchings.
Since 2008, in parallel with engraving, he engaged again in a research about sacred themes; this has resulted in iinstallations, paintings similar to altarpieces, tabernacles where the white color stands out as the color of light, of soul purity, in various shades or gold spotted, refering to ancient churches where the prayer always is a high flying chant.
